Road transport is the commercial and social heartbeat of our nation. Every supermarket delivery, tradesperson, care worker, taxi driver, and small business depends on affordable fuel. When fuel costs rise, everything costs more. Like millions of drivers, I am feeling the impact of high fuel prices. Fuel is not a luxury. It is an essential expense. Yet motorists continue to be treated as a convenient source of tax revenue, even as household budgets and business costs are squeezed. What is particularly frustrating is that about 40 countries have taken steps to support motorists through fuel tax cuts, rebates, or other measures. Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Sweden have all stepped in to help drivers and businesses. Why has the UK failed to do the same? FairFuelUK's recent polling also shows that heavily taxed fuel is harming small-business profitability, investment, recruitment, and long-term viability. A government serious about growth should not be penalizing the very transport network that powers the economy. I urge you to use this Budget to: 1. Cut Fuel Duty by at least 10p per litre. 2. Make the existing 5p Fuel Duty cut permanent. 3. Create a statutory PumpWatch with real legal and enforcement powers, not another fuel-price website that drivers have effectively had access to for years. To truly stop opportunistic profiteering. 4. Reject pay-per-mile taxation and road pricing. 5. Reduce transport costs for small businesses. 6. Deliver a long-term transport and fuel strategy focused on growth, affordability, mobility and energy security. I also urge you to read Howard Cox's groundbreaking 20-Year Transport Strategy, developed with input from more than 80,000 drivers and other road users. The Strategy outlines practical proposals to boost productivity, reduce business costs, improve connectivity, strengthen energy security, and generate billions of pounds in additional economic activity. It deserves serious consideration from politicians of every party. I further request that you meet with Howard Cox in person to discuss its common-sense economic growth recommendations. As FairFuelUK's founder, Howard has spent 17 years campaigning on behalf of drivers, consumers, and businesses. Few people in Britain have spent more time analysing the relationship among transport policy, fuel taxation, economic growth, and the cost of living. As the Government seeks answers on growth, it should not ignore his experience and expertise.  Thousands of FairFuelUK supporters have already contacted their MPs. Drivers do not expect special treatment. They simply expect fair treatment. On 28 October, you have a choice. You can continue treating motorists, businesses, and hard-working families as an endless source of revenue. Or you can finally recognise what FairFuelUK's Howard Cox has been telling successive governments for 17 years: affordable mobility is not a cost to the economy; it is a driver of economic growth. Lower fuel costs mean lower business costs, lower prices, greater productivity, stronger communities, and a more competitive Britain. This Budget is your opportunity to change course. Cut fuel duty.
