UK drivers remain among the highest taxed at the pumps in the world.<br><br>In opposition, your Party has always supported the freeze in this regressive tax since 2011. I am so grateful for that common sense response over the last decade.<br><br>Inflation has now fallen to 1.7% due to falling pump prices. Your laudable focus on economic growth is welcome, so increasing Fuel Duty would be fiscal madness and go against increasing GDP.<br><br>The Centre for Economic Business Research's latest evidence warns that raising fuel duty could lead to a staggering revenue collapse of more than 60% within five years. We cannot afford to take this risk.<br><br>Finally, in case you are unaware, diesel drivers in Spain, Germany, and France pay 26p, 12p, and 6p per litre less than drivers in the UK. These nation-states recognise that the commercial heartbeat of the economy needs to be taxed as low as possible. We must do the same.<br><br>Therefore, I respectfully urge you to maintain the current Fuel Duty freeze. Any increase would significantly impact the finances of those ‘working people’  who voted in the General Election, particularly those who chose your Government over the Tories.<br><br>Howard Cox, Founder of FairFuelUK, in the last 15 years has repeatedly proven, using independent economic expert advice, that needlessly high fuel taxes cost jobs, increase inflation, slow GDP growth, reduce business investment, and shrink consumer spending. Any fuel tax increase could send many logistics businesses to the wall, as they already work to very low-profit margins.<br><br>As part of this email, please arrange to meet with Howard to discuss the fiscal evidence as to why lower fuel costs are so beneficial for growth.  He, more than anyone, has done more for the road economy than any other road user transport advocate.<br><br>So I repeat, please put more money into our pockets so we can spend it in the broader economy to generate extra growth taxes in your pursuit of reducing the national debt.</span></div>
